Life sucks. When you are feeling very clever – say after munching a slice of bread smeared with a blob of margarine, what our headmasters swore was a preserve of very successful people – something in the newspaper reminds you that you are an idiot.
For me, it came in the form of a newspaper notice by the University of Nairobi appointing Prof Lucy Irungu a Deputy Vice Chancellor. Nothing new in that. Two of her female seniors are already running public universities. Instead, it’s her resume that sent beads of sweat streaming down my face.
