Maurice Muhatia has been installed as the Archbishop of the Kisumu Catholic Archdiocese.

Muhatia replaces Philip Anyolo, who was appointed the Archbishop of the Nairobi Archdiocese in October 2021.

Muhatia’s installation at the Tumsifu Centre on Nzoia Road, Kisumu was presided over by Pope Francis’s representative to Kenya and South Sudan, Nuncio Hubertus Van Megen.

The ceremony was attended by Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, ICT Principal Secretary Jerome Ochieng, Governor Lee Kinyanjui, among others.

Muhatia becomes the third Archbishop of the Kisumu Catholic Archdiocese.

He is expected to preside over his first mass at St. Theresa’s Cathedral in Kibuye on Sunday, March 20.

Until his appointment to Kisumu, Muhatia was the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, a position he'd held since December 2009.
