Medical student calls for help to raise fees

A 20-year-old medical student could drop out of university due to lack of fees.

Steve Momanyi (pictured), a second-year student at Kenyatta University's School of Medicine, said he was stranded in his Kisii home since his poor family could not even raise his bus fare to Nairobi.

Momanyi said unless well-wishers came to his aid, he would have to drop out of school.

His jobless parents are now urging him to drop out of college.

The student said he managed to complete his secondary school education through fundraisers. He studied at Kisii High School and completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2015, scoring a mean grade A.

“I have always wanted to be a cardiologist and a renowned researcher. However, I have been having difficulties raising school fees," said Momanyi.

"I had to call a fundraiser when I came for my first year of study here at the university. The Higher Education Loans Board grant I receive is too little."
