Nyachae unhappy with clanism in Kisii politics

By ROBERT NYASATO

Former Cabinet Minister Simion Nyachae has censored leaders out to share leadership on clan basis.

Nyachae said segregation of clans in leadership should not be entertained, saying it would bring about division.

Apparently unhappy with recent sharing of Kisii County positions on clan basis, Nyachae said essentially Omogusii was one, therefore some constituencies should not be perceived as superior or inferior to others.

“Leaders should be identified based on their abilities not where they come from,” Nyachae advised.

The former Ford People leader was speaking at Masongo Village in Nyaribari Chache constituency during the burial of his cousin, sportsman John Makinda.

The occasion was also attended by Area MP Robert Monda, former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara, former Nyaribari Masaba MP Hezron Manduku among others.

Recently Kisii ODM leaders led by Public Works Minister Chris Obure came up with a formular to share county seats.

They proposed that the seat of Senator be reserved for Ababasi, Governor (Abagetutu), Women Representative (Abanchari) and  deputy governor (Abamachoge).

The County Assembly Speaker is to go to Abanyaribari while that of county chief executive was accorded Abagirango.

However, the proposal was shot down by delegates and has since met a lot of resistance from a cross section of leaders.

During the burial, Magara said Omogusii needs a working formula to make impact in national politics under the new political dispensation.

He revealed that his Peoples Democratic Party will make a major announcement on Monday in relation to the on-going pre-election pact negotiations.

He said Foreign Affairs Minister Prof Sam Ongeri and his team in TNA had nothing to show for backing the party since all the seats had been shared on 50-50 with URP leaving out Omogusii.

Monda called for patience saying Omogusii needed to study the unfolding scenario before joining a place where stakes of the community will be higher.

On his part Manduku called for unity of Omogusii if they would have bargaining power in the new political order.
