Brunlehner shines in Coast swimming meeting

Sylvia Brunlehner of Mombasa Academy broke two national records as the Coast inter-clubs swimming competition ended at Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa.

Brunlehner, who is set to represent the country in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India in October swam in a new time of 1.14.10 to break the 16-year olds and over and the all comers record.

She broke her own record of all comers of 1.14.22 she set last year in the 4x25m Individual Medley and went ahead to shatter the 16 and over record of 1.14.80 set by Rachita Shah in 2007.

Another Commonwealth Games bound swimmer Ramadhan Vyombo shattered a meet record, which saw nine meet records erased by top Coast swimmers as the championships ended yesterday.

In boys 16 and over 50m butterfly, Vyombo swimming for Coast Swim Club clocked 26.98 to erase the previous record set last year by Chitta Mbarak of 28.77.

In the event, Abubakar Ahmed and Mohammed Hassan both of Coast Swim Club timed 27.99 and 31.10.

In boys 14/15m butterfly, Abdulmajid Kadernani of Coast Swim Club clocked 28.46 to break the previous record of 28.91 set last year by Ahmed Abubakar. Alexander Onyango and Deeyn Shah both from Bandari Swim Club timed 31.48 and 32.43 for the second and third positions.

In boys 12/13m butterfly, Bandari’s Tory Pragassa set a new meet record of 32.30 after erasing Victory Kameta’s last year time of 41.04. Saahil Harunani and Suhail Yusuf both from Coast Swim Club timed 34.15 and 35.35.

In the boys 16 and over 400m freestyle, Abubakar Ahmed of Coast Swim Club clocked 4.56.74 to erase the earlier record of 5.06.10 set by Hassan Mohammed. Ahmed Hassan (Coast Swim

Club) and Bandari’s Mohammed Zubeir timed 5.12.63 and 5.12.77.

In boys 14/15 400m freestyle, Abdulmajid Kadernani (Coast Swim Club) erased his own record of 4.50.67 to register a new record of 4.41.86. Hamdan Bayusuf and Deeyn Shah both of Bandari clocked 4.45.27 and 5.19.20.

In boys 12/13 400m freestyle, Tory Pragassa of Bandari clocked 4.55.80.
