Residents of Marsabit County will soon have an additional sub-county, Interior and National Administration PS Raymond Omollo has said.

He said the move by the government will facilitate closer access to government services and improve security management in the area.

Omollo announced that North Horr Sub County would be operationalized in the next 60 days.

“The sub-county will beef up surveillance and security around the region, guaranteeing safety for travelers and traders,” said Omollo.

The PS spoke when he led a delegation from the Border Control and Operations Coordinating Committee (BCOCC), for a public consultation with Illeret residents.

Marsabit County leadership, including Deputy Governor Solomon Gubo was also present.

The public participation exercise was aimed at getting views from the residents on the establishment of Banya Fort as a Point of Entry and Exit between Kenya and Ethiopia.

This is in line with the government program to enhance border security by earmarking more Ports of Entry and Exit (PoE) in different parts of the country.

“As we establish more Ports of Entry and Exist (PoE), we are also keen on bolstering security along these frontiers,” Omollo said.

He noted that the continued connection along the borderlines is a remarkable gain in boosting regional trade and interaction.

He appealed to the residents to cooperate with the Government in fostering security around the new border post.
