Gachagua: I'll present evidence against Ruto to Trump administration

[John Muia, Standard] Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says he will hand over evidence of President William Ruto's human rights violations to the US government. Gachagua while welcoming the decision to review Kenya's major non-North ally status, urged President Donald Trump's administration not to punish the country for Ruto's mistakes, suggesting they could impose sanctions on the President. "Don't withhold military aid to Kenya. Don't withhold sharing of intelligence with Kenya. Don't withdraw all those facilities that come with that privilege of being recognised as a Nato ally. Please just do the right thing. Impose sanctions on William Ruto as a person never to come to America," he said. Speaking in Midwestern region, Gachagua said he went to the US to not only engage Kenyans but also "put the Kenyan case to the American government, to the Congress and to the Senate". "And as much as you (referring to Ruto) think we are stupid, don't think we are here just moving around. I have all the details and I have all the evidence. I was your deputy when the meetings took place and we are giving all the details to America," he said. Saying he met senior American leaders on Sunday, Gachagua claimed they were concerned with the decision to scrap the vetting of residents of the North Eastern region before issuing national identity cards would threaten world security. "The Americans are concerned that suspected terrorists will register as Kenyans and then find their way to America and to the rest of the world and create terror. They want to know why Turkish people with American origin were abducted. These are the things on the radar of the American government," said the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader. However, there was no evidence of the former DP meeting any top US Government official. While dismissing Ruto's defence on the relationship between Kenya and China, Gachagua said the the issue was much more than that. "Don't hide behind China... You have compromised world security in pursuit of business interests and this time round you will not escape. You may harass everybody in Kenya but I don't think you have capacity to harass the American government." Gachagua claimed Ruto was misusing his position of to conduct businesses, a move he claimed had killed the local businesses and hence the economy. He accused the government of using e-Citizen to defraud Kenyans. At the same time, Gachagua accused Raila of betraying the people and joining the "looting bandwagon". He criticised the Kenya Kwanza administration's move to import 5,000 metric tons of rice, saying there was enough produce in the country. "We don't have a government, we have a criminal enterprise. Ruto is the chief procurement, he is the chief accountant, he is the supplier and everything," he added.
