Expect more rain in the next one week, says weatherman

The regions to receive the most rainfall are listed as highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley. This will affect counties in these regions namely; Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok. However, the department said rainfall amounts and spatial coverage are likely to reduce during the second half of the forecast period. "Average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30C will be experienced in much of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya," said Dr David Gikungu, Director of Meteorological Services. He added: "Average night-time (minimum) temperatures, he said will be less than 10C in some parts of the highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and in the vicinity of Mt. Kilimanjaro." Gikungu said sunny intervals are expected in the mornings though occasional rains may occur over a few places during the first half of the forecast period. "Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places during the first half of the forecast period," Gikungu said. He added: "The spatial coverage will however reduce to a few places during the second half of the forecast period. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy though occasional showers may occur over few places." On the North-western Kenya, which include Turkana and Samburu Counties, Gikungu said that daylong sunny intervals are expected during the period, while nights are likely to be partly cloudy. However, he said that morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places during the first half of the forecast period. For the highlands East of the Rift Valley and Nairobi County, which also include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties, Gikungu said that mornings are likely to be cloudy, with occasional rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over several places during the first half of the forecast period. However, he said that the spatial coverage will reduce to few places during the second half of the forecast period. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy but occasional showers may occur over a few places. For North-eastern Kenya which includes Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties, the weatherman said the areas will experience sunny intervals and are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy. However, morning rains as well afternoon and night showers are expected over few places during the first half of the forecast period. The South-eastern lowlands of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County, will have sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy. However, Gikungu said there is a possibility of afternoon and night showers occurring over few places. The Coast region covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County will in the morning, afternoon and night be likely to experience showers over a few places. The morning and afternoon showers may spread to several places during the first half of the forecast period.
