KTN's Zubeida Kananu appointed to ICTs Sectoral Working Group

Standard Group's Zubeida Kananu is among those appointed by Information and Technology CS Eliud Owalo, to a Working Group on Policy and Legislative Reforms for the ministry.

Zubeida is a KTN anchor and the current President of the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) who will now serve under the Broadcasting, Postal, and Courier sectors in the Working Group.

According to a gazette notice dated September 19, 2023, the newly formed group aims to examine existing policies that govern the Communication Ministry as well as come up with comprehensive reforms.

“The Sectoral Working Group shall review existing policy, legislative frameworks, institutional structures, and administrative protocols regulating or underpinning the ICT and digital economy sector in Kenya and make recommendations for reform,” read the notice.

Additionally, the group is to identify emerging technologies that could be of use to the ministry and provide a framework of how the technologies can be used.

It will be led by Professor Timothy Mwololo Waema as the chairperson assisted by two vice chairpersons namely Phyllis Migwi and Doctor Hanningtone Joel Gaya.

Zubeida will be working alongside Ambassador Bishar Hussein, former KEG president Churchill Moses Otieno, Agnes Kalekye Nguna among others.

Other members include Dennis Itumbi, Michael Okidi, Carole Mandi, Fiona Asonga, John Walubengo, John Ooko, and Amrit Singh Pyara Labhuram.

The group will operate for three months although the timeline is not fixed since Owalo has the mandate to extend the term if necessary.
