President William Ruto has warned the Opposition against violent demonstrations that may result in the loss of lives and destruction of property.

The president said the Government will not allow the opposition to engage in violent protests aimed at destroying property.

He termed the demonstrations by the Opposition as an act of economic sabotage.

"We will not allow some individuals to sabotage government plans to create jobs for our youth for their own selfish interests," said Ruto.

The President made the remarks at Ruai grounds, Nairobi, during the issuance of over 2,000 title deeds to Embakasi Ranching Company shareholders.

The Head of State noted that during last Friday's demonstrations, six lives were lost due to leaders “pursuing their selfish interests.”

"We will not allow further loss of lives to satisfy someone's personal interests," said Ruto.

The president further asked the courts to dispense off the Finance Act, 2023 to enable the Government to implement its development agenda.

He argued that the Opposition's move to frustrate the Finance Act was part of efforts to undermine the implementation of Government programmes.

His deputy, Rigathi Gachagua said the Government will not allow some few individuals to cause chaos to achieve their selfish needs.

He asked police to carry out their duties diligently, saying people's lives and property must be protected at all times.

"We will not tolerate those bent on causing chaos to attain their selfish interests," Gachagua said.

On his part, Governor Johnson Sakaja urged Nairobi residents to ignore the protests and engage in activities aimed at improving their lives.

Investment Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria among other leaders were present.

Meanwhile, President Ruto commissioned the 220/66kV Athi River sub-station in Machakos County which was built at a cost of Sh3 billion. The station seeks to improve the uninterrupted supply of power.

He said the Government was investing in additional electricity supply to reinforce the existing distribution network.

This, Ruto, noted will minimise losses so that the country can access adequate, low-carbon, reliable and affordable energy to unlock the industrial production potential and spur the economic growth.
