Police in Kirinyaga are investigating a case where a 30-year-old woman was found murdered in Kangai, Mwea East sub-county on Saturday morning.

She was also sexually assaulted before being killed.

Mwea East Sub-County police boss Daniel Kitavi said that the woman’s body was found lying near River Thiba.

Mr Kitavi said a farmer who had gone to water his farm, saw the body and called the police.

A resident Mr Njiru Wambu said the deceased was seen by the locals at Karií shopping center before being found dead.

Mr Wambu said that police should increase patrols in the said shopping centre to Thiba bridge to Nyangati border to avert such deaths.

Shocked family members led by her father said his daughter had gone to buy tomatoes at Karií market when she was attacked by unknown people who raped and killed her.

The body was taken to Kibugi Funeral home and police started investigations.

Elsewhere in Kiaritha village, a 52-year old woman burnt her house down in unclear circumstances before throwing herself and her 17-year-old handicapped son into a 52-feet well.

Speaking at the scene of the incident, her husband Joshua Maina said he was away when his house was set on fire before neighbours made endless calls.

“I  was in the forest cutting trees for my daily bread when neighbors called me only to find my property worth over one million had been destroyed by the fire,” Maina said.
