Former Kwale Woman Representative Zainab Chidzuga is dead.

Chidzuga died on Thursday, August 12 while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital, her son Hassan Chidzuga told The Standard.

It wasn’t immediately clear what the former lawmaker was ailing from.

President Uhuru Kenyatta eulogised Chidzuga as a women’s rights champion.

“She was a passionate advocate of women empowerment whose many achievements as an activist, legislator and mentor will continue shaping the gender agenda in our country for generations,” said the President.

Deputy President William Ruto described Chidzuga as a “selfless and visionary leader who served the people of Kwale with dedication,” adding: “She was progressive, steadfast and focused”.

Chidzuga served as Kwale Woman Representative between 2013 and 2017. She was sponsored to the seat on ODM ticket.
