Row looms over location of district headquarters

Nakuru,Kenya: Rongai MP Raymond Moi has strongly opposed an alleged plan to relocate the district’s headquarters from Kampi ya Moto to Salgaa town along the Nakuru- Eldoret highway.

The MP said the move will not be entertained and warned those spearheading the transfer that such moves were self-centered and against the wishes of the majority.

For the last one week, Rongai residents have reacted angrily following allegations that the government was planning to transfer the district headquarters.

Speaking during a public baraza at Ruiyabei Farm in Rongai, Raymond said the transfer would interfere with the daily operations that have been conducted at the current headquarters over the last five years.

Caused panic

“The current headquarters is at the central point of the district that residents can access without having to travel long distances,” he said.

However, Rongai DC David Kosgei dismissed the claims and said the government had no plans to relocate the headquarters. Koskei said the rumours of transfer have been circulating in the district for the last two weeks and have caused a panic among the residents and investors.

“The business community and investors in the district should not panic because the government has no plans of transferring the headquarters,” said Koskei.
