A senior police officer’s teenage daughter died on Thursday morning after two matatus crushed her to death on Moi Avenue in Nairobi.

The girl, 17, had just alighted from a matatu and was walking between two mini-buses at 7am, when she was crushed.

“The matatus heading the same direction were extremely close to each other,” an informant told The Standard on condition of anonymity.

The teenager was rushed to a city hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Her body has been moved to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home,” said the source.

The drivers of the two matatus have since been arrested as investigations continue.
