Nairobi gets new Regional Commissioner in changes

Nairobi and Nyanza regions have new Regional Commissioners following a reshuffle done by the Office of the President.

In the changes announced on Tuesday, Nairobi Regional Commissioner Wilson Njega was moved to the Office of the President and named the secretary for internal security. The new Nairobi RC is James Kianda, who was moved from Nyanza. Kilifi County Commissioner Magu Mutindika was promoted and named the new Nyanza RC.

Moffat Kangi was named the new Principal Administrative Secretary at Harambee House while Kangethe Thuku was moved to Nairobi Metropolitan Services and as deputy director-general, will serve under Maj-Gen Mohamed Badi.

The current DDG, Enosh Momanyi, was recalled to the Ministry of Lands where he reported on Wednesday. Momanyi had been seconded from the Department of Physical Planning where he is a Principal Secretary.

Deed of transfer

NMS is tasked with the implementation of the deed of transfer of functions executed between the national government and the Nairobi City County government. NMS came into existence on March 18 when the deed of transfer of functions signed by Governor Mike Sonko and the State came into effect.

Under the deed, four county functions of health, transport, planning and management, public works and ancillary services were transferred to the national government.

The changes, especially in Nairobi, are the latest to affect the security sector in less than two weeks. The regional police commander Philip Ndolo and his deputy Stephen Matu together with the head of operations Francis Sang were moved in changes.

Regional commissioners usually chair security meetings and other national administration issues.
