Probe: Governors' budget grilling to go on

A Senate committee will on Monday continue its sessions with governors on county budgets despite a request by the Council of Governors (CoG) to temporarily halt proceedings.

Senator Moses Kajwang (Homa Bay), who chairs the County Public Accounts and Investment Committee, warned governors against not honouring invitations to appear before his team to respond to audit queries.

“Failure to appear before the Senate committee without reasonable cause shall attract the consequences spelt out in Section 19 of the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act,” said Kajwang (pictured) in a statement.

Last week, CoG pleaded with the committee to suspend appearances until a committee formed by the council gives its verdict on suspicious expenditure reflected in audit reports of several counties.
