NAIROBI, KENYA: A man suspected to have killed his five children in Korogocho slums was charged with murder.

Boniface Ouma Auka appeared before vacation Judge David Majanja to answer to five counts of murder.

He, however, did not plead to the charges after the investigating officer said investigations are still ongoing and that the suspect does not have a lawyer.

Auka is accused of murdering his five children – Elizabeth Ochieng, Wycliffe Odhiambo, Melvin Atieno, Walter Otieno and Moses Ochieng’ – on December 19 at Korogocho slums in Kariobangi North.

Dressed in a brown suit, a handcuffed Auka sat pensively at the dock and even managed to tell off photographers who were taking his pictures.

Justice Majanja directed the police to conclude investigation within seven days and present the suspect in court on January 8 to take plea.

The man and his wife are alleged to have taken off after the killings. The mother of the children, however, turned herself in on December 21.

Stabbed to death

Police said four of the children were poisoned while one was stabbed to death.

According to Nairobi police boss Moses Ombati, the woman reported at the Kasarani police station where she was interrogated.
