Gor Mahia slapped with two year ban from Cecafa Kagame Cup

Gor Mahia have been suspended from Cecafa competitions for two years over indiscipline issues and their Kagame Cup prize money withdrawn.

The decision was reached in yesterday night's regional body executive committee meeting in Dar es Salaam after K'Ogalo players refused to take their Kagame Cup bronze medals at the National Stadium.

In addition, the Kenyan giants will not get the Sh 1M prize money that they were supposed to receive after they beat Zanzibar's Jeshi la Kujenga 2-0 in the third place off.

Prior to snubbing the closing ceremony,  Gor Mahia had refused the hotel initially allocated to them before declining to use the dressing room during their 2-0 semifinals defeat to eventual champions Azam over 'witchcraft' allegations.

"The executive committee have met and decided to suspend Gor Mahia from Cecafa competitions for two years for snubbing the medal ceremony," said Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye during Saturday's press briefing.

"Even if they qualify in 2019 and 2020, they will not play. We have gone through reports of Gor Mahia matches and seen a series of indiscipline issues.First they refused the hotel, then declined to use the dressing room and on Friday they failed to honour the medal ceremony."

Gor coach Dylan Kerr was not spared either as Musonye gave the Briton a stern warning.

"Let this be the last warning to Gor Mahia coach who has repeatedly abused the match officials. We have directed FKF to take disciplinary actions against him. He got away with this for now, but for the next two years he will not be here," he said.

"Gor Mahia is a big team and is representing us in Confederations Cup, but they cannot take law in their own hands. Clubs are used to holding their federations at ransom, this will not happen at Cecafa.
Gor are expected to face Yanga in their second Group D CAF Confederations Cup match at Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday.
