Machakos Wiper party governorship candidate Wavinya Ndeti has promised to offer better governance if elected.

Speaking at the Machakos Golf Club at the weekend when she launched her manifesto, Ms Wavinya promised to deliver "a model county in governance, leadership, integrity and sustainable development".

Wavinya, who was flanked by her running mate Peter Mathuki, identified water, food security and health as her priority areas.

She promised that her administration would be transparent, more accessible and ready to offer solutions.

"Lack of sufficient water remains a great challenge in Machakos. Our government shall ensure people have access to safe and affordable water within a radius of at least two kilometres for domestic use, agriculture and afforestation," said the former Kathiani MP.

In her manifesto, Wavinya also promises to adopt a robust agriculture policy which will guarantee sustainable food security.

"We shall initiate and develop communal irrigation schemes in suitable areas and promote the use of hybrid seeds and subsidised fertiliser to improve yields," she said.

Wavinya exuded confidence that she would floor Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua in the August 8 polls.

"I want to assure the MCAs that never again will they be manipulated by the County Government of Machakos. We will work as a team to deliver the much-needed development for this county," Wavinya said.

On health, Wavinya said her government will put up a dispensary in each sub-location with reliable supply of medicine, equipment and competent staff.

Wavinya also promised to tarmac at least 50km of key roads every year and grade access roads in sub-counties. [Erastus Mulwa]
