In spite of good progress, Kenya still has few women in science fields

Kenya women still have to work twice as hard as men to get recognition in the field of science. This was the conclusion arrived at during the celebration of the International Day for Women and Girls in Science in Kenya last month. The day, observed on February 11 each year, marks the milestones which have been achieved by women in the field of science, mathematics, engineering and technology. And the view is that despite the challenges, women have covered much ground but are yet to have the numbers in science. At the event, Prof Catherine Thoruwa, the chair of Africa Women in Science and Engineering said that the number of women in science at higher levels in education keeps diminishing just like a leaking pipe.— Jeckonia Otieno
