Desperate times as political tension drains family incomes

The street Shylock and other shady money lenders are on a roll. Word in the street is that there is a bee line to their offices by desperate Kenyans in search of quick loans. Things are so thick that some are dumping their assets to the unconventional money lenders the moment they are given some exorbitant loans to fix their financial obligations.

To demonstrate how desperate things have turned out, Grapevine was told of a landlady from a gated community who collected money from her neighbors but never remitted it to the watchmen who guard their gated estate. When she was reported to the assistant chief, the landlady simply said that the money was grabbed by her bank the moment she deposited it because she has fallen back in loan repayment.

She further revealed that she too was living on borrowed time as her house has been listed for auction. The watchmen, the land lady and the tenants are all blaming the prevailing political instability to their woes
