It is all smiles for tea farmers in the country after receiving a gross payment of 85.74 billion shillings in tea bonuses.
At 85.74 billion shillings, Kenya's tea earnings are up 9.4 percent compared to last season’s total income of 78.31 billion.
A kilogram of green leaf fetched an average of 52.51 shillings in the last season, having dropped from 58.61 shillings in 2017.
KTDA linked the drop in price per kilo to “escalating costs of production and depressed prices” during the last quarter of the financial year.
