Religious elders gathered around Mount Kenya for prayers
27th December, 2013
In the spirit of Christmas and the festive season, followers of the African traditional religion gathered around Mount Kenya today for prayers. Dressed in cultural attire, faithful from the Luo, Mijikenda, Kikuyu, Embu and Meru communities gathered at the foot of Mount Kenya for prayers, as a symbol of togetherness. Traditionally, the communities living around Mount Kenya believed that god lives in the mountain, hence the choice of the location. The worshipers walked around the mountain seven times in an anti-clockwise direction, with stopovers to pray, as was done traditionally. They prayed for peace and unity, both in Kenya and neighboring South Sudan.
