The Big Story: Concerns raised after rape incident in Moi Girls

The focus is on the education sector and boarding schools in particular following the horrendous rape incident at Moi Girls school Nairobi. Days after the incident, several other cases of attempted rape in school have come to the fore, raising concern on the safety of the student in boarding schools.

Education cabinet secretary Amina Mohamed dissolved the board of management of Moi girls school Nairobi and the school principal tendered his request for early retirement, a request that was honored by the teachers’ service commission. Among the actions taken on Moi girls schools security reinforcement, even though there are not students in the institution at the moment. But even with the sweeping changes, stakeholders feel more needs to be done to be done to alleviate students’ security across the country.
