Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have marked the second anniversary of the El-Adde attack that left scores of soldiers dead after al-Shabaab militants overran an AMISON base in the town of El-Adde in Somalia.
The event at the Eldoret garrison was a low key event that even the media was not allowed into. At least 173 soldiers died in the El-Adde attack that has been described as the worst attack on KDF ever.
The attack happed just moments after the dawn prayers at the camp that was being manned by an all-new battalion. The soldiers had move in less than a week before the attack and had little knowledge of the terrain. An unknown number of soldiers remains uncounted for since the attack with several still being held captive by al-Shabaab. Families of the fallen soldiers continue to wallow in pain of losing their loved ones, some have never had closure two years later.
