Ol Kalou by-election heats up as DCP, UDA clash over vote buying claims

9th July, 2026

Campaigns for the July 16 Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election have entered the final stretch, with UDA and DCP candidates intensifying their push to win over voters. As the race heats up, the campaigns have been marred by repeated clashes between rival supporters, while allegations of misuse of state resources and vote-buying continue to dominate the contest.

The DCP candidate has accused the government of deploying public resources to influence voters, claims that have intensified political tensions ahead of polling day. Meanwhile, the campaigns have reignited debate over the use of cash handouts and other incentives to sway voters.

The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has raised concern over what it describes as growing cases of vote-buying, political patronage, and the commercialization of elections, warning that such practices threaten the credibility and integrity of the democratic process.
