Julius Bitok reassigned from education docket to tourism amid rising school unrest nationwide

10th June, 2026

Principal Secretary Prof. Julius Bitok has been transferred from the State Department for Basic Education to the State Department for Tourism in a government reshuffle affecting two ministries.

The changes come amid mounting pressure over a surge in student unrest across the country, with nearly 200 schools affected by disturbances in recent weeks.

The government recently convened a high-level meeting to address the crisis as more learning institutions continued to send students home following unrest incidents.

Bitok's reassignment comes against the backdrop of growing scrutiny over the handling of the escalating situation in schools.
