ODM party leader Dr Oburu Oginga has convened a family crisis meeting set for Sunday in a bid to prevent further divisions within the Odinga family and the party’s top leadership.
The move comes as cracks deepen over the future leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement following the death of Raila Odinga more than three months ago. The wider Odinga family has remained split on the party’s direction, fueling uncertainty within ODM ranks.
The planned talks also follow Raila Odinga’s widow, Ida Odinga, accepting President William Ruto’s nomination to serve as Kenya’s permanent representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Attention now turns to whether the meeting will help resolve the deep-seated political differences threatening unity within the party.
