Former DP Rigathi Gachagua to face multiple opponents in 2027 general elections

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to face multiple opponents in the upcoming 2027 general election, as political realignments intensify across the country. Gachagua, who launched the Democracy for the Citizens Party earlier this year, has declared his readiness to challenge President William Ruto, even as he continues to build a broad-based opposition alliance. With talks underway to front a single opposition candidate, insiders say names like Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Fred Matiang’i are being floated as possible flag bearers. Despite facing legal challenges stemming from his impeachment, Gachagua insists he remains eligible and determined, promising a campaign rooted in integrity, equity, and generational renewal.
