A police constable from the Special Police Intercept and Verification (SPIV) unit was shot dead on Tuesday evening at Cravers area in Thika West, Kiambu County, by a boda boda operator during a routine inspection. The officer had stopped the rider for lacking the mandatory Thika registration code and removed the motorcycle’s ignition key, sparking a confrontation. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly drew a firearm, shot the officer in the throat, and fled the scene on another motorcycle, dropping a loaded magazine in his escape. The officer was rushed to Thika Nursing Home but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
