Mixed reactions in Kenya following President Ruto's State House tour alongside Uhuru Kenyatta

President William Ruto and his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta sparked mixed reactions across Kenya after holding a rare joint appearance at State House Nairobi during the EAC–SADC peace summit on the DRC. The visit marked Kenyatta’s first return to the presidential residence since leaving office in 2022, with Ruto personally giving him a tour of the newly renovated grounds. While some leaders praised the gesture as a sign of political maturity and reconciliation, critics accused the government of using the event for political optics ahead of the 2027 elections. The opulent renovations to State House also drew public backlash amid ongoing economic hardships facing many Kenyans.
