Parliament Moves to Scrap Live-Streaming of Election Results Ahead of 2027 Polls

23rd October, 2026

The National Assembly has approved the Elections Amendment Bill 2024, which seeks to remove the legal requirement for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to livestream election results as they are announced at polling stations.

The move could spark a fresh debate over electoral transparency ahead of the 2027 General Election, with questions emerging over how the proposed changes may affect public access to results.

Drama unfolded in Parliament during the debate after Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina alleged that the IEBC was registering foreigners as voters.
