What began as a quiet, non-political visit by Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to Opoda Farm, the Siaya home of Raila Odinga, quickly transformed into a highly charged political gathering.
Kalonzo had travelled to Siaya to pay respects at the resting place of the late Raila Odinga. He was accompanied by Kamba elders and a delegation of leaders drawn from both Ukambani and Nyanza regions. The group initially maintained a solemn tone as they concluded the commemorative rituals.
However, the mood soon changed as leaders from both sides turned their attention to the country’s political landscape. Speeches calling for unity, succession strategy, and consolidation of political coalitions dominated the event, turning the private visit into an unexpected political platform.
The visit is now being viewed as part of the emerging realignments shaping the national political conversation ahead of upcoming elections.
