Police were yesterday looking for National Olympics Committee of Kenya chairman Kipchoge Keino after he failed to honour their summonses for grilling over the just concluded Rio Olympics.

Police handling the probe said they had summoned Keino for questioning at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation on Monday and he promised to honour the summonses in vain.

Come Tuesday, he promised to go to DCI headquarters, but failed to turn up. Yesterday, the head of the team probing the saga Mr John Koki said Keino had not honoured his promise to present himself for formal questioning.

“He has not come as he had promised and as we speak a team is out there looking for him," said Koki.

He denied reports quoting Keino saying he had been questioned. “Unless he was misunderstood but as far as I am concerned, we are still looking for him.” Other sources said a team had been sent to Eldoret to locate Keino.

On Tuesday, Nock officials Catherine Ndereba (assistant team Kenya manager) and Fridah Shiroya (treasurer) were grilled in the ongoing probe.

Ndereba was let to go home while Shiroya was detained ahead of her arraignment yesterday. Elsewhere, Nock Treasurer Fridah Bilha Mulwe Shiroya was yesterday released on Sh200,000 cash bail. Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Charity Oluoch said the prosecution failed to provide enough reasons to warrant the detention of Shiroya pending the completion of investigations.

“The suspect should report to the Director of Criminal Investigation offices twice a week for 19 days for further investigations,” said Oluoch. She was also ordered to deposit her travel documents to court and not to access Nock offices because they are under investigations. The prosecution had sought to detain the suspect for 21 days claiming that they have not completed the investigations. Prosecutor Dancun Ondimu said Shiroya who was arrested on August 30 is said to have been part of the delegation to Rio 2016 Olympics. “The investigations relates several offenses, which include among others theft, abuse of office and neglect of official duties,” said Ondimu.

He added that on August 25 the team of investigators conducted a search at the premises of Nock but they did not search the office of Shiroya. Ondimu added that they have received information Shiroya has a shop within Nairobi that sells among other items sportswear and it is suspected that some of the items are in the said shop and there is need to conduct a search.
