Nairobi, Kenya: The National Assembly has approved Njee Muturi’s nomination as the Solicitor General and his name forwarded to President Uhuru Kenyatta for formal appointment.

The chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs Samuel Chepkonga took the House through a number of observations the committee identified and found Njee suitable for the job.

“He was a participant in the constitutional review process and has attended a number of conferences touching on leadership,” he stated.

The CORD Coalition, which had the highest number of MPs in the House when the motion was tabled, attempted to reject Muturi but in vain.

Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale applied delaying tactics while contributing to the debate to enable Jubilee MPs who were from a parliamentary meeting at State House to enter the Chamber.

“The call by the CORD coalition for the question to be put is not genuine as they are aware majority of the Jubilee MPs are not yet in the House,” Duale said amidst laughter from the CORD side and cheers from Jubilee MPs.

Leader of Minority Francis Nyenze led the CORD MPs who were itching to teach Jubilee side a lesson following the humiliating defeat handed to them when Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo last Thursday attempted to amend the Appropriation Bill and re-allocate money to pay striking teachers.

Immediately after making his contribution, Duale rushed out of the Chamber to make phone calls to the MPs and shore up the numbers in the House leading to majority of those who were within the precincts of parliament to rush to the House.

Duale said Muturi had been picked out of 16 applicants for the job and the interviewing panel had found him suitable for the job as besides his professional experience, he was a man of good integrity.
