Opposition leader Raila Odinga insists that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya protests are still on and will be conducted every Monday and Thursday of the week as earlier announced.

Through his verified Twitter account, Raila posted a 32-second video captioned 'No handshake, tuko [we are] on, Mondays and Thursdays'.

His message comes at a time when police have beefed up security and intensified searches in major towns including Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and Kisumu where youths have already lit bonfires in sections of Kibuye Market.

Most of the shops and businesses in Nairobi remained deserted as traders stayed away from the Central Business District.

On his part, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua posted photos of him checking into his office at 5:15am Monday, March 27, at the Harambee House Annex building, Nairobi.

In his tweet, Gachagua urged Kenyans to focus on rebuilding Kenya and wished them a blessed week ahead.

"Time Check earlier today, 5.15am. Do the best you can every single day to make Kenya better. The hard work and resilience of the Kenyan people to make this nation great again is indefatigable," he said.
