Nakuru West MP Arama says he is ready to work with Kenya Kwanza

Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama says he is ready to work with President William Ruto's government despite being in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.

Mr Arama said his new decision would ensure his constituents benefit from national government services.

"I recognise William Ruto as Kenya's fifth president and when I start cooperating with his government, no one should brand me a defector from Azimio because it's all for the benefit of my people," Arama said on Saturday.

Speaking a day after meeting President Ruto at State House, Nairobi, Arama, who was re-elected on a Jubilee Party ticket is the second MP from Nakuru County from the opposing political formation to pledge allegiance to Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government.

He follows in the footsteps of Bahati MP Irene Njoki, another Jubilee legislator who promised to work with Ruto's administration after the last general election.

Nakuru has 11 MPs and only two were elected on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Political 'enemies'

Arama said by working with the government of the day, he will ensure that his constituents benefit in terms of development.

"There is nothing wrong with me working with the government of President Ruto. He was elected to serve all the people - those who voted for him and those who did not," the lawmaker said.

The MP spoke after a picture of him with the president at State House, Nairobi started circulating online. Arama added that the political season is over and his political 'enemies' should rest easy. "I hold no grudge against anyone. It was a political competition and since I won it is time to serve all."

He told his constituents that he was optimistic they will continue benefiting from National Government- Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) programmes despite a recent court order outlawing the fund.

Mr Arama has served as a member of the National Assembly for Nakuru West since 2013 when he was elected under ODM.

He later defected to the ruling Jubilee Party and was cleared by the IEBC to defend his seat in the August 9 polls.
