Kenyans in the diaspora have called for peace as the country awaits the outcome of the presidential election petition and lauded the electoral agency for presiding over a free and fair election.
In a statement sent to newsrooms yesterday, the Kenya Kwanza diaspora charter in the United Kingdom called on the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya top brass to restrain their supporters and allow the Supreme Court hear and determine the petition.
"...Kenya belongs to all of us, and we the Diasporan from the United Kingdom remind our leaders that Kenya is bigger than all," said Joseph Warui, the United Democratic Alliance UK/Europe chairperson.
Mr Warui said the Wafula Chebukati-led electoral agency had put Kenya on the world map by overseeing a "free, transparent and irreproachable election."
"The hotly contested 2022 elections have put Kenya on the global map as one of the most advanced democracies in the world by conducting a transparent election," he said.
"All Kenyans elected with either government or in the opposition now have a duty to serve Kenyans regardless of their political inclinations, to observe the law, and fulfill the mandates of their manifestos," he added.
Martin Kayobe, UDA's UK/Europe secretary General exuded confidence that President-elect William Ruto would ensure separation of politics from the Judiciary, Kenya Revenue Authority, and law enforcement and foster freedom of speech, divergent political views, the bottom-up economic model, the Big Four Agenda, universal healthcare, and digital inclusion for all Kenyans.
The statement came just days after the IEBC condemned harassment and attacks of staff.
"Today, Monday, at around 8:30pm an organised group of goons wielding crude weapons attempted to attack IEBC personnel preparing responses to presidential election petitions at a premise within Nairobi. However, they were repulsed by security," IEBC posted on Twitter.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati and commissioners- Marjan Hussein Marjan, Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye- were attacked and injured at the Bomas of Kenya, as they were getting ready to announce the presidential results on August 15.
