Machakos police gained access to a warehouse in Machakos where illicit liquor was manufactured and arrested 12 people.
The police, led by Machakos County commander Issa Mohammud said that acting through a tip-off from members of the public they managed to nab illicit liquor with a street value of 3.8 million shillings in a warehouse at Katheka Kai area along Machakos-Makutano Kyumbi road.
"At the time we visited the premises the gates were locked. We used a ladder to gain access to the compound. We also went through a window to enter the warehouse where manufacturing of the illicit liquor was being conducted at night." He said.
He said that they found two types of liquor bearing names of Everest and Sir Antonio, which are believed to be consumed in Mlolongo, Kitengela and Central Province areas.
"According to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) the stamps on the liquor bottles are fake. This means the content in these bottles is not certified. We will take the liquor to a government chemist for analysis." He said.
Mohammed said that they had commenced investigations and they were going to arrest the owners of the business and ensure they face the rule of law.
"The Government will not continue losing revenue through unscrupulous business. This premise remains under custody of police until investigations are concluded." He said.
