Chris Em changes shifts from spiritual anthems to romantic rebrand

Kenyan UK-based artist Chris Em is stepping into uncharted territory with “Wendo Cama,” a romantic love song that marks a bold departure from his spiritual and motivational roots.

For him, the shift to romance was about shedding restrictions.

“I’d say I’m more spiritual than religious,” he says. “Religion brought a lot of unnecessary rules tied to our thoughts, culture, and lifestyle. I don’t think those came from God.”

‘Wendo Cama’ is one of many songs he had written but never recorded. “I decided to break all the rigidity around me and just show people what I’ve got,” he says.

Quoting Ecclesiastes, he explains his philosophy: “Don’t be too over-righteous because you might end up destroying yourself.”

At its heart, Chris Em’s music is entertainment, a celebration of life’s many colors.

The inspiration for  Wendo Cama is deeply personal.

“I’ve been in a romantic relationship,” he shares. “When writing this song, I borrowed from the memories we created. Some of the words I used to charm my missus became a melody.”

The result is a heartfelt track that draws listeners into an intimate world of love and longing.

Though based in the UK, Chris Em’s Gikuyu roots remain central to his artistry.

“I’m very radical,” he says with a grin. “Even here, we have Kenyan communities. We organize events, meet, have fun, and keep our culture alive.”

Wendo Cama carries two messages: one from the song itself and one from the artiste.

“From the song, love is sweet, love is real, and so is romance,” Chris Em says. “From me, as the performer, this is a new me, a rebranded into the best version of myself.”

It’s an announcement of growth and evolution, a promise of more to come.

He juggles his spiritual roots, artistic ambitions, and personal well-being with a careful balance.

“I have a spiritual father who talks to me about Godly things, prays with me, and advises me,” he reveals. “I’ve also started therapy every two weeks for my mental well-being.”

Alongside this support system, his “crazy friends” keep him grounded. “Life is about living, not just surviving,” he says.
