20 students get innovation awards under Kenya-UK university partnership

Twenty students drawn from KCA University and the University of Nottingham (UK) have received innovation awards after pitching ideas under the Global Partnerships programme.

The 20 were awarded after completing the inaugural Learning and Design Lab under the UK-Kenya University Partnerships initiative through a Sh6 million grant from the British Council.

The innovative program, under the Going Global Partnerships programme brings together Kenya and UK universities where industry partners from Kenya come up with innovative and human-centered solutions to climate resilience challenges through collaborative solutions.

Speaking after awarding students who pitched the best and most innovative ideas, Monica Blagescu Head of Education at the British Council said the initiative marked a significant investment in nurturing young talent, supporting impactful initiatives in environmental sustainability and innovative real-life solutions to global challenges.

“The grants are part of the British Council's ‘Climate Innovators Program’ and are specifically tailored for University students working on innovative projects related to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and sustainability,” she said.

Blagescu highlighted the importance of empowering students with the resources and opportunities to turn their ideas into actionable solutions under the mentorship and guidance of industry players.

On her part, Prof Damiannah Kieti, Deputy Vice Chancellor- Finance, Planning and Development stated that KCA University's commitment to nurturing problem solvers who are adaptable to both the local and international world of work.

“At KCA University, we believe in holistic nurturing and prepare our students for both the local and international job market. We are constantly seeking partnerships and collaborations that equip our students with skills and competencies that generate solutions to the world's pressing needs,” she said.
