Cristiano Ronaldo responds to Jose Mourinho’s criticism of him

Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to Jose Mourinho's criticism of his behaviour on the sideline during the Euro 2016 final.

The Portugal captain, who left the game early in the first half with a knee injury, was spotted furiously cheering on and instructing his teammates.

The Real Madrid winger has since been criticised by former Portugal international Antonio Simoes and Mourinho has now chimed in.

"Cristiano Ronaldo didn't help in any way by doing that in the final few minutes of the Euros final," the Manchester United manager is reported as saying to Portugal's SporTV.

"There were 11 players on the pitch doing their job, and the person in charge of directing them was the coach.

"I saw it as an overload of emotion from someone who saw that the team was just minutes away from achieving an objective which everyone wanted.

Quick remind????????????

"He lost a little emotional control, not that that's a bad thing, but what my experience tells me is that it is in these moments, when important decisions might need to be made, that the players are lost in their own little worlds."

Ronaldo has swiftly responded though with a gentle reminder of the eventual outcome through an Instagram post that has received 1.3million likes at the time of writing in less than 24 hours.

The Portuguese pair were known to be at loggerheads during their time together at Real Madrid and their relationship is as frosty as ever, though we will likely have to wait another season before their teams meet in Europe again.
