Steve Gitau flies away to victory in Muthaiga

Home golfer Steve Gitau is the winner of the Abeona/Serena Hotels Golf series grand finale played at the par-72 Muthaiga Golf Club over the weekend.

Gitau was in his element as he returned a commendable score eof 38 stableford points to clinch the overall prize. Winning himself, two nights for two at Zanzibar Serena Hotel courtesy of Abeona Africa and Serena Hotels as well as a complimentary return air ticket, courtesy of national carrier Kenya Airways.

Abeona/Serena Hotels Golf series had been to Nairobi Royal Golf Club, Vet Labs Sports Club, Thika Sports Club, Ruiru Sports Club earlier in the year.

Other host clubs were; Thika Greens Golf Resort, Kiambu Golf Club, Sigona Golf Club and Kenya Railways Golf Club before winding up at Muthaiga Golf Club for the grand finale.

With event organizers, Abeona Africa, seeking to reinvent local tourism after ravaging effects meted on the hospitality, tourism sector and economy at large by Coronavirus pandemic.

Gitau playing off handicap 20, started off his title hunt with a double-bogey on the par-four first, bogeyed the second a par-three, third a par-four and fourth a par-five.

Picking a double bogey on the par-three fifth and a bogey on the par-four sixth. Gitau earned his first par of the day on the par-five seventh, followed it with another one on the par-four eighth hole before closing his front nine with a double-bogey on the par-four ninth.

On his back nine, Gitau scored a bogey on the par-five 10th, par-three 11th. With a double-bogey on the par-four 12th.

Before picking a bogey on the par-three 13th hole and two more double-bogeys on the par-four 14th and 15th holes. Before sinking his third par for the day on the par-three 16th.

Spiced up his round with a birdie on the par-four and final par on the par-five 18th hole.

At the par-72 Nakuru Golf Club, 100 golfers took part in the first edition of John Kiboore Memorial Golf Tournament sponsored by Kiboore's family and Friends.

Handicap 24 John Koskei won the overall prize on a score of 39 stableford points ahead of Murtazza Mussaji who came in second on a score of 38 stableford points with Man winner prize going to a handicap 15 Roy Bwoma on a score of 38 stableford points.

Nakuru Club Chairman Stephen Kihumba, playing off handicap 15, bagged Sponsors prize on a score of 35 stableford points as Club Captain Hillary Korir playing off handicap 6 settled for Sponsor second prize on a score of 33 stableford points.

Best Lady golfer was Esther Karuga playing off handicap 10, on a score of 34 stableford points with Wesley Kihumba playing off handicap 15 winning Junior prize on a score of 22 stableford points.

Nyahururu Sports Clubs' S Gitau playing off handicap 22 was Guest winner on a score of 40 stableford points.

In the Nines; Joseph Munene playing off handicap 12 secured the 2nd Nine prize with 20 stableford points as Handicap 26 George Kouma walked away with the 1st Nine prize on a similar score of 20 stableford points.
