Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde suffers broken leg

Spanish champions Real Madrid have confirmed Federico Valverde has suffered a broken leg.

The 22-year-old was replaced by Toni Kroos in the 74^th minute during Los Blancos 4-1 defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium on Sunday, November 8.

“Following tests carried out on our player, Federico Valverde, by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a fracture in the posterior tibial bone in his right leg. His recovery will continue to be assessed,” said Madrid on their website.

Carlos Soler scored three penalties as his side beat the reigning La Liga champions after Frenchman Karim Benzema had put Madrid ahead with a powerful strike from outside the box. Valencia equalised through the first of Soler's three penalties after a most bizarre turn of events.

Soler saw his first penalty saved by Thibaut Courtois, whose rebound was netted by Yunus Musah, only for the goal to be ruled out following a VAR review. Soler scored the re-take.

Raphael Varane made it 2-1 to Valencia via an own goal, which was confirmed following another VAR review minutes to halftime.

A foul by Marcelo on Maxi Gomez followed by a handball by Sergio Ramos gifted the home side two penalties, Soler, making to mistake.
