FKF election: Mombasa clubs call for Normalisation Committee

Over 90 clubs affiliated to FKF Mombasa Sub-branch have called for the establishment of a normalisation committee after the Sports Disputes Tribunal nullified elections.

The club officials also want a review of the FKF Constitution and the Electoral Code to pave way for free and fair elections.

Omar Mzaham of Westham FC said that more than 90 clubs have been active and featured in the FKF Mombasa Sub-branch leagues for the last four years, but surprisingly most of them were left out in the nullified FKF elections. “Our only hope lies in a Normalisation Committee so that we can elect leaders of our choice,” said Mzaham.

The chairman of Wanderers, Faris, Sagar also echoed the same sentiments saying the purported county elections were a sham as only clubs viewed as friendly to the branch office were allowed to participate.

“Those perceived to be independent were left out deliberately. This is a clear form of rigging,” said Sagar.

Asha Pili, who is the manager of Ambassadors FC said the branch offices created a rift between the national office and bub-branches all over the country for fear of competition and need to maintain the status quo.

Salim Ali, chairman of Soweto FC claimed the grants Fifa grants to its members did not trickle down to the sub-branches. “We have been discriminated despite being members of the federation and playing under a legitimate office. All sponsorships were enjoyed by particular clubs, who are friendly to the branch office,” added Ali.

“We don’t want to see leaders electing themselves unopposed by twisting the code to their favour. Stakeholders gave their resolutions to be implemented before the polls are held for a fair and free election,” said Ali.
