Kenyan Premier League champions have sworn to take advantage of the absence of Wayne Rooney in Everton’s squad to inflict damage on the former English champions when they lock horns in a friendly match in Liverpool, England on November 6 courtesy of SportPesa.

Kenya’s most decorated club with 17 league titles, eight more than Everton, who have been crowned champions of England nine times, will walk into Goodison Park with vengeance written all over their faces as they faceoff with Marco Silva’s side for the second year running.

This will be the second time that the two clubs will be facing off with Dylan Kerr as Gor Mahia coach, while Everton has since lost their influential striker Wayne Rooney. But Kerr and his captain Harun Shakava are secretly plotting to embarrass the Toffees before their fans.

Rooney has since moved to the United States’ Major League Soccer with Washington United but his 25-metre yard stunner in his second debut with the Toffee in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in  June 2017, is still fresh in the minds of many Kenyan fans. Gor lost the game 2-1 in the first-ever meeting between a Kenyan club and an English Premier League (EPL) side. Shakava, who captained the 1987 Mandela Cup winners to a historic match in Tanzania, says that K’Ogalo will make Everton sweat in their own backyard.

“We don’t care whether Rooney is there or not. We are going to play a team that competes in one of the best leagues. I hope we’ll use the opportunity to market the country and ourselves,” Shakava said.

Gor Mahia will be flying Kenyan flag high even as their local rivals AFC Leopards waits with bated breath for their first KPL title in close to 20 years.
