AFC Leopards have on Thursday fired Belgian coach, Ivan Minnaert. Ezekiel Akwana and Nicholas Muyoti will now take responsibility on interim basis.

According to the recently elected club chairman, Dan Mule, the executive made the drastic move owing to the dismal performance that the boys have been showing lately.

“We have terminated his services to the club with immediate effect. If you can remember when Minnaert came in, we were in position two and know we are in tenth. We are out of GOtv Shield and Top 8 so as we are speaking, we are not sure whether we are going for relegation or we will survive,” Mule reiterated.

Mule stated that they will decide before the end of the season whether to appoint a local or an international manager to take over.

“We will decide before the end of the campaign on whether to seek a local successor or venture overseas. Minnaert was appointed in February but has since shown little regard of his contract with the club,” he said.

Before joining Leopards, Ivan cut short his four months stint at Rayon Sports for talks with AFC’s top hierarchy that ultimately turned out successful.

Minnaert has previously managed various clubs including: Mali’s Djoliba AC, VB Addu FC, a professional Maldivian football club based in Malé, Maldives and Club Deportivo San Roque U19 in Spain.
