Barcelona charged over ‘Ronaldo is a drunk’ Chants

Barcelona charged over 'Cristiano is a drunk' chants by furious Spanish league

The Spanish league has charged Barcelona after supporters chanted defamatory songs about Cristiano Ronaldo.

LFP president Javier Tebas has brought the charges against the club after "Cristiano es un borracho" (Cristiano is a drunk) was heard being repeatedly sung by supporters at the Nou Camp during Sunday's 5-0 win over Levante.

The chants are in relation to Ronaldo's controversial 30th birthday party last week, occurring on the same night of Real Madrid's derby humiliation at the hands of Atletico. Spanish reports claimed Ronaldo's teammates were fuming that the 30-year-old partied on the same night of such a thrashing, and video emerged (below) of the Madrid number 7 singing about his craving for sex.

Despite the taunts from Barca fans, the Portuguese winger is, in fact, tee total. Ronaldo's father died of an illness related to alcoholism in 2005.

LFP delegates at the game have confirmed that they heard the chants emanating from the Almogavers supporters group, and having listened back to audio recordings the charges have been brought before the league's Anti-Violence Commission and the Competition Committee:

"Chants heard at the stadium, during the game, in minute 65 and from the group of spectators... formed of around 200 people... identified as a group known as Almogavers... initiated the following chant: 'He is a drunk, Cristiano is a drunk', in reference to the Real Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo, in a repetitive and coordinated manner.

"It was not followed or sung by the rest of the spectators present in the stadium, whose behaviour was totally correct throughout the game."
