Wazalendo win to climb to sixth in league

Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League side, Wazalendo, collected three vital points against Kenya College of Accountancy University (KCA-U), winning 3-2 to jump to position six in the standings.

The match, played on Sunday evening at Nairobi’s City Park Stadium, saw Peter Karanja, Ben Kubasu and Nelson Shilaku scoring in the 36th, 50th and 63rd minutes for Wazalendo, while Gordon Oduor and Simon Peter replied for KCA-U in the 44th and 54th.

The defeat left KCA-U ninth in the league with two points. Wazalendo now share four points with Western Jaguars, who are a place below them.

EARLY LEAD

Kenya Police have taken an early lead with 13 points, having played five matches since the league began.

Nairobi Simba Union, who have played the same number of games, are second on 11 points. Green Sharks (Eight points), Strathmore (seven) and Mvita Xi (six) are third, fourth and fifth.

Kisumu Simba are eighth with three points, while KCA-U, Parkroad and the United States International University-Africa are joint bottom with two points each.

There were no upsets in the men’s National League as University of Nairobi (UoN) tied 1-1 with Parklands at City Park.

Ben Mita and Kevin Simiyu scored for both sides in the 45th and 66th minutes. The draw left the teams still stuck in position seven (UoN) and eight (Parklands) in the National League on two points each.

Relegated Karate Axiom are top of the league with 11 points after five games, followed by Mombasa Institute and Kimathi University with ten and seven.

The only team yet to get a point in the category is the National Youth Service, who have played two matches.

Strathmore University proved a tough nut to crack for Blue Eaglets, who are resting at the base of the Women’s National standings. Strathmore edged Eaglets 2-1 with Lucy Wanjiku and Njeri Gichuhi netting in the 20th and 69th minutes.

Linet Akoth scored for Eaglets in the first minute of the game. Defending champions Telkom Orange still lead the women’s category with 15 points.

Usiu-A are second with 13,while Vikings and Strathmore are third and fourth with five each. Mombasa and Blue Eaglets are at the base of the standings with a point apiece.
