Goodbye to boring nails

By Esther Muchene

For a perfect flow of looking chic, your nails must do justice to your gown, accessories, jewellery and make-up on the wedding day. They can complement the wedding theme and what better way to always keep your special day alive other than looking at photos of your pretty looking hands with your wedding bands.

• French manicure

They say fashion comes and goes, but some fashion trends never go stale; such as the black little dress and French manicures. A common trend that works from day to day, night and even special events such as weddings; It is no wonder it is a classic look.

For a bride who loves this elegant simplistic look, consider adding some zest by having some nail art designs done in one or two shades of your colour scheme. You can have designs drawn according to your theme, for example, you can have butterflies drawn or you can have a replica of a flower in your bouquet. For a sparkly and princess toned-down look, opt for small crystal gems at the tips of all or several nails.

For those who don’t want any of the above but want to maintain the French look, go for coloured nail polish in your colour scheme for the tips instead of white nail polish, while the nail bed remains pink or vice versa. Alternatively, you can have the reverse French manicure where the tips are pink instead of white and the nail bed is white instead of pink. To add another colour, opt for a line drawn across between the tip and nail bed or even through dots or cute designs like stars at the tip or centre of the nails.

• Hot pastels

To add some colour and fun, go for hot colours like turquoise, aqua and yellow. So the next time you think of adding an accessory or flowers to your bouquet in your colour scheme, you could opt for a hot colour nail polish instead.

Play around with the style, should your wedding scheme have a fun outdoor theme, consider applying different colours on each nail or have each bridesmaids with a different colour.

• Bold colours

If your wedding colours are bold why should you go soft on the nails? Go for black or burgundy shades and for some colour add some cool designs like polka dots in other shades of your colour scheme.

• Neutrals

As seen on 2012 fashion runway nail trends, the nude colour is a must try for the simple bride who wants the least hustle. Apply some peach, beige, lavender or petal pink nail polish and you’re good to go. This will give you a low key polished look.

• Be-jewelled

For the bride who loves jewellery and all that glitters, opt for small crystals or rhinestones that come in different sizes, colours and designs. This will give you a striking look, especially if your gown is simple.

• Bridal nails

For that bride who wants to go all out, having your nails done in matching colours to your gown embellished with crystals and fun nail art designs is a sure way to go. To get this detailed nails, you have the option of buying them already done. All you need to do is attach or stick them on your nails.

• Lastly, don’t forget your feet. It makes no sense to have untidy feet in those cute shoes while your fingers look good. It should be a complete look from head to toe.
